When the Youngstown State Penguins take the field on September 4th against the Penn State Nittany Lions, Kurt Hess is poised to be the starting quarterback according to Joe Scalzo of the Youngstown Vindicator.
Just two weeks ago, Head Coach Eric Wolford made it known that the coaching staff was not going to "deem [Purdue transfer Najee Tyler] the savior," and after hearing the comments from offensive coordinator Shane Montgomery today, we now see that the coaching staff remained true to there words. Over the past few weeks, Hess has done just about everything that was asked of him, including a 14 of 21 passing performance for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns in this past Saturday's scrimmage. Hess has worked with the first team offense more than Tyler and Hubbard product Marc Kanetsky in August camp thus far. Despite the news, Tyler and Kanetsky will be battling it out for the coveted #2 spot on the depth chart over the coming weeks.
UPDATE: Poland native Gannon Hulea was moved to safety this past week. We reported that Logan, OH native Patrick Angle was moved to safety, but it now appears he is in line for a redshirt this season.
