21 August 2010
Following today's 106 play scrimmage at Stambaugh Stadium to conclude August camp, Eric Wolford announced that redshirt freshman Kurt Hess will start against the Penn State Nittany Lions on September 4th. Anyone who has followed August camp should not be surprised by this news because Hess has taken a majority of the snaps with the first team and did very well in the process. After watching Eric Wolford's post scrimmage interview below, it sounds as though Marc Kanetsky is second on the depth chart going into the Penn State game, with Purdue transfer Najee Tyler making a lot of progress since joining the program last month. In addition to naming Kurt Hess the starting quarterback, Coach Wolford named seniors Brandian Ross, Torrance Nicholson, Dominique Barnes, and Eric Rodemoyer the captains of the 2010 football team.
Some stats from the scrimmage include:
Quarterbacks
Kurt Hess: 9 of 15 for 115 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Najee Tyler: 9 of 15 93 yards and 1 touchdown.
Marc Kanetsky: 5 of 7 for 33 yards.
Running Backs
Allen Jones: 69 yards on 12 carries and 1 touchdown.
Jordan Thompson: 54 yards on 5 carries and 1 touchdown.
Jamaine Cook: 49 yards on 5 carries.
